Louis Brandeis was a giant of the law. An ardent fighter for civil rights, Brandeis was the first Jewish member of the U.S. Supreme Court, where he served from 1919 to 1939. He was an unflagging advocate of free speech, and his writings are among the best known and most quoted. Here are some notable Brandeis quotes. “If you would only recognize that life is hard, things would be so much easier for you.” “Behind every argument is someone’s ignorance.” “Sunshine is the best disinfectant.” On the issue of free speech Brandeis was without peer. “In the frank expression of conflicting opinion lies the greatest promise of wisdom in governmental action, and in suppression lies ordinarily the greatest peril.” Perhaps his most famous writing on free speech came in his 1927 opinion in Whitney v. California, “Fear of serious injury cannot alone justify suppression of free speech and assembly. Men feared witches and burnt women. It is the function of speech to free men from the bondage of irrational fears. To justify suppression of free speech, there must be reasonable ground to fear that serious evil will result if free speech is practiced. There must be reasonable ground to believe that the danger apprehended is imminent. There must be reasonable ground to believe that the evil to be prevented is a serious one.” Brandeis created what has become known as “the counter-speech doctrine,” “If there be time to expose through discussion the falsehood and fallacies, to avert the evil by the processes of education, the remedy to be applied is more speech, not enforced silence. Only an emergency can justify repression.” This model, of universities as centers for debate and discussion long prevailed. Chief Justice Earl Warren issued a ringing endorsement of academic freedom, “The essentiality of freedom in the community of American universities is almost self-evident. Scholarship cannot flourish in an atmosphere of suspicion and distrust.” Sadly, the advent of Progressive/Woke idiocy and the cancel culture has polluted the free and fresh atmosphere of the college campus. Speech codes abound on campus, and that spinning sound you hear is coming from Louis Brandeis’ grave, because Brandeis University, named for that champion of free speech, has issued what it calls its “Oppressive Language List,” which seeks to replace ordinary words with words more acceptable to fragile snowflakes. To paraphrase Macbeth, the Brandeis List is a tale told by an idiot, full of meaningless pablum, signifying nothing. Here are some of the lowlights. The word “picnic” is unacceptable, having been associated with lynchings of Black people, during which white spectators were said to have watched while eating. Brandeis suggests “outdoor eating” instead. Really? Even if this is true, would anybody know it if Brandeis hadn’t printed it? And why doesn’t “outdoor eating” invoke the same image? You’d think the objectionable word would be “lynching,” but strangely, that word’s not on the List. I guess it’s part of the cultural divide, when I think of picnickers watching people being killed I’m reminded of the white folks (“folks” is acceptable, see below) who picnicked at the first Battle of Bull Run, and got to watch other white folks kill one another in an effort to end slavery. “Trigger warning” is also out, because the word “trigger” has connections to guns for many people. This one’s understandable. When they think of guns, they think of the Second Amendment to the Constitution, and remember that they hate the Constitution. Strangely, when I hear “trigger” I only think of Roy Rogers’ horse. The term “off the reservation” is disapproved. Brandeis suggests “disagree with the group” or “defect from the group.” This one is a mixed bag. If Indians leave the reservation, they’re no longer under the control of Great White Father. On the other hand, the word “defect” itself is problematic. Communists defect to the U.S., which might give some the impression that America isn’t the oppressive Hellhole snowflakes have been taught to believe it is. One shouldn’t say, “you guys,” “ladies and gentlemen,” or even “she” or “he,” as these words perpetuate the notion that there are only two genders. Thus, when Lou Costello said, “Ma’am/Sir, you gotta be one or the other” he was wrong. Brandeis prefers gender inclusive language such as “Y’all,” “folks” or “folx.” This is a tough one. “Y’all” sounds like something a Trump supporter might say, so that can’t be soothing. “Folks” I get. Il Duce Obama always said “folks” so it’s OK. “Folx” on the other hand is a word I’ve never heard, and it seemingly runs afoul of the List’s own prohibition on the use of broken English. Think “African-American” is a safe term? Think again. The List scolds us that “not all Black people are from Africa or America.” And notice I capitalized “Black.” That’s the acceptable usage. The lower case, “black,” is unacceptable. Why? Don’t ask. Because we said so. The Brandeis List also targets (can I say “target?”) abelist words. Don’t know what “abelist” means? Don’t feel bad, nobody else does either. Ableist language contributes to stigmas about and trivializes the experiences of people with physical and mental health conditions. Clear now? So don’t say, “crazy,” “insane,” “wild,” or “lame.” Instead of “walk in,” Brandeis suggests “drop in,” although this seemingly offends the epileptic community. For this reason, the word “bananas” is also out. It not only offends the insane community, which comprises nearly all of the Left, but also has ugly racial overtones. When bananas go bad they turn black. This associates blackness with spoliation and decay, which is offensive. Then again, if you use “black” and not “Black” maybe it just refers to the, you should pardon the expression, “fruit” and not the race. That was a close one. “Committed suicide” is out as it implies judgment about suicidality, and offends the suicidal community. I’d say, “Kill me now!” but alas, that’s also on the naughty List. The List also disapproves of “language that doesn’t say what we mean.” Which raises the question, how the Hell do they know what we mean? You shouldn’t say, “Everything going on right now.” You should name specifically what you’re referring to, like “police brutality.” I agree with that idea. How’s this, “the Brandeis List is unconstitutional bullshit.” Much better. In fact I’ve formulated my own language suggestions. “College President” is misleading, as it denotes one in charge of imparting knowledge to students by encouraging a free and open exchange of ideas and opinions. A better alternative, “Sniveling Weakling” as in, one who lives in fear of uttering the wrong word, thus provoking the little bastards in his charge to call for his head. I would replace “Stupid” with “paying Brandeis University $75,000 a year to warp your kid’s mind.” “Activist” – “Irritant.” “Celebrity” – “Ignoramus.” “Progressive” – “Miserable.” “Kaepernick” – “Who?” I close with one more quote from Justice Brandeis, “The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in the insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well meaning but without understanding.” Sadly, his namesake university disapproves of this statement. You can’t say “men.”
Since Marx and Engels issued their Communist Manifesto in 1848, communism has swept across the globe, leaving death and misery in its wake. The fundamental message of communism is that the government can do things better than the private sector. Sound familiar? Stalin’s 5 Year Plans and purges killed millions in Russia. Eastern Europe was enslaved for half a century. Once the Soviet Union fell, the first thing they did was reject communism. In China, Mao’s management of farms and industry in the Cultural Revolution, killed untold millions, and the tyranny continues to this day. Closer to home, Cuba’s dedication to communism has produced a society in which ownership of a ’57 Chevy is a mark of prosperity, while thousands take to rafts trying to escape Cuban prosperity. You’d think that, as intelligent people, Americans would be able to learn from the bitter lessons of the failed societies that have embraced communism, but you’d be wrong. A surprising number of people right here support, or at least say they support, Marxist principles. The Communist Manifesto had a number of goals, many of which we’ve adopted, or are being pushed by the Left: 1. Abolition of private property. 2. A heavy graduated income tax. (Got it).
3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance. (See Biden’s tax plan).
4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels. (You can’t take it with you, whether you’re coming or going).
5. Centralization of credit in the hands of the State. (FANNIE MAE, FREDDIE MAC, Federal takeover of all school loans). 6. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State. (Leftists control social media, push mass transit, and want to outlaw gasoline engines). 7. State ownership of businesses.
8. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture. (Worked great in China). 9. Gradual abolition of all the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the populace over the country. (Federal control over zoning, and shipment of illegal aliens throughout the country). 10. Free education for all children in public schools. (opposition to charter schools and home schooling). In the past year, it looked like Marxists were gaining control of our government. AOC and the rest of the Squad wreak havoc over the House of Representatives. Corrupt Demented Imbecile Joe Biden has become the puppet of the Left, with a radical Cabinet. Marxist BLM and Antifa were permitted to run amok. Critical Race Theory indoctrination began in schools and businesses. Things looked bleak, but lately there’s cause for hope. Thinking Americans can stand only so much Marxist nonsense before they fight back. Around the country, people of good will, from all walks of life and all backgrounds are standing up to local school boards, telling them they won’t accept Marxist BLM inspired Critical Race Theory brainwashing of our their children. An outraged African-American man in Illinois blasted his school board’s Critical Race Theory agenda. “Critical Race Theory is pretty much going to be teaching kids how to hate each other.” “You’re gonna deliberately teach kids, ‘This white kid right here’s got it better than you because he’s white’? You’re gonna purposely tell a white kid, ‘Oh, the black people are all down and suppressed’?” “How do I have two medical degrees if I’m sitting here oppressed?” He explained hard work is the key to success no matter a person’s race. Amen. In Carmel, N.Y., Tatiana, blasted the school board’s poisoning of students’ minds with a woke, racist curriculum. “I think the Board of Education and those sitting on the panels are thieves. I think they’re liars and have committed treason against our children.” “Stop indoctrinating our children. Stop teaching our children to hate the police. Stop teaching our children that if they don’t agree with the LGBTQ community that they’re homophobic.” Tatiana dared to utter an inconvenient truth, “You work for me. I don’t work for you. You have a duty, we are entrusting our children to you.” “You’re emotionally abusing our children and mentally abusing them.” “You’re demoralizing them by teaching them Communist values! This is still America.” When a board member suggested, “this is not a peaceful discussion,” Tatiana struck back with an example even a Leftist should understand, “No, that’s your opinion, see, here we go again. This is peaceful. To me, this is peaceful. I’m not burning, looting, and murdering. This is peaceful.” Or this, from an African-American woman in Virginia, who lectured her school board, “Critical Race Theory is not a ‘nice dialogue,’ it was a tactic that was used by Hitler and the Ku Klux Klan on slavery many years ago to dumb down my ancestors so we could not think for ourselves. CRT is racist; it is abusive; it discriminates against one’s color.” “Let me educate you: An honest dialogue does not oppress. An honest dialogue does not implement hatred and injustice; it’s to communicate without deceiving people. Today we don’t need your agreement. We want action and a backbone for what we ask for today: to ban CRT.” “We don’t want your political advertisement to divide our children or belittle them. Think twice before you indoctrinate such racist theories. You cannot tell me what is or is not racist. Look at me. I had to come down here today to tell you to your face that we are coming together and we are strong. This will not be the last greet-and-meet.” Or this Chinese immigrant, who escaped Mao’s Cultural Revolution, “I’ve been very alarmed by what’s going on in our schools. You are now training our children to be social justice warriors and to loathe our country and our history. Growing up in Mao’s China, all of this seems very familiar. The Communist regime used the same critical theory to divide people; the only difference is they used class instead of race.” “During the Cultural Revolution, I witnessed students and teachers turn against each other.” “We changed school names to be politically correct. We were taught to denounce our heritage. The Red Guards destroyed anything that is not Communist: old statues, books, and anything else.” “This is, indeed, the American version of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Critical Race Theory has its roots in cultural Marxism. It should have no place in our schools.” These are prophetic words from a person who experienced Marxist tyranny firsthand and knows it when she sees it. We must reject Marxist teachings in favor of an American Manifesto. “We respect our Constitution. We enforce our laws. We are free to think as we see fit, worship as we see fit, speak as we see fit, and dissent when it suits us. We respect all among us, but we bow to no group and to no doctrine.”
In his March 1933 inaugural speech, F.D.R. famously told America “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” F.D.R. was what we would now call a Progressive. He was responsible for the expansion of the federal government which has resulted in the unconstitutional federal domination of the States from which we currently suffer. F.D.R. was the champion of Big Government, at a time when one could argue there was a need for more government intervention in our lives – the Great Depression. At his second inaugural, F.D.R. spoke of a nation in which privation was common, “I see one-third of a nation ill-housed, ill-clad, ill-nourished.” The point is that, like F.D.R. or not, in the 1930’s he wasn’t wrong. 90 years after F.D.R., the problem with Democrats, or more to the point, Progressives, is that they fail to recognize progress. Democrats are still supporting programs designed to relieve conditions that the New Deal and Great Society programs already addressed. Democrats are still running as F.D.R. government expansionists, they just changed the motto, “The only thing we have to sell is fear itself.” Think about it. The Left has no policies. The Left isn’t “for” anything. All the Left has is a list of the things they’re against, and the things that want you to fear. Engendering fear comes right out of their playbook. Rahm Emanuel famously advised Democrats never to let a crisis go to waste. Like the 2015 movie, their brand is crisis. It has to be. The Woke Left crazies make up about 20% of the electorate. The programs they want can’t be enacted if times are good. Ergo, everything has to be a crisis. Everything has to be “an existential threat.” Sound familiar. It’s all part of the plan. That’s why the social media sites have to cancel dissent. That’s why we have to be told there’s only one side to every story. There can’t be a debate, because the Woke wish list can’t stand up in the light of day. Sunlight is the best disinfectant, that’s why Leftists have to keep pulling down the shades. Climate change, you may have heard, is an existential threat. For how many years have they been telling us we only have 12 years to fix the problem? Spoiler alert – in 1970, at the first Earth Day, “experts” predicted world-wide famine by the year 2000 because increased nitrogen in the atmosphere would render all farmland unusable. I shit you not, and we’re still here. Today’s remedy for climate change is deindustrialization. There are groups that are seriously advocating shutting down one-third of our industrial production to reverse climate change. Just us. China and Russia and India will keep on producing. The Green New Deal is crazy, but we have no choice, it’s a crisis. Race relations are the same story. We are told, and many young people believe, that racism is worse today than ever before. We are told, by the FBI no less (and there is no less), that the greatest terrorist threat we face is from white supremecist groups. Really? Homicides and other violent crimes are up 30, 40, 50% in the past two years. Dozens of black men, women and children are shot and killed every day, by black perpetrators. Antifa and BLM are in the streets fomenting assault, arson and looting. Islamic terrorists are still with us. And white supremecists are the greatest threat? Look, I have an open mind. Somebody please prove me wrong. I’m willing to listen. Somebody, please give me two examples of lives being lost to white supremecists. White supremecists exist, to be sure, they bear watching. If they violate the law they need to be prosecuted. They’re not our greatest threat, but they are convenient scapegoats. That’s their role. The Left loves to create a straw man for people to fear and hate. It keeps the rabble from noticing that the Democrats are politically and intellectually bankrupt. It’s not a coincidence that our educational system stopped teaching history and began indoctrinating our kids with Woke claptrap. In 2005, historian David McCollough warned that we were producing generations of historical illiterates. It wasn’t a mistake. It was all part of the plan. And it worked. In an age when unlimited information is at our fingertips, most young people are blissfully ignorant of events that occurred before they were born. We no longer have revisionist history, we have a pervasive and troubling ignorance of history. But for ignorance, the Left couldn’t tell us poverty is worse than ever, racism is worse than ever, and the biggest lie, we need to spend more money. It’s so bad that people, purportedly from the Left, are beginning to speak out against it. Bill Maher is a Progressive who’s beginning to sound the alarm about the dangerous path Progressives have chosen to take. He recently spoke against what he called, “progressophobia,” a term which describes liberals and other progressive thinkers who are unable to perceive any forward movement in America on social and cultural issues. Maher explained, “It’s like situational blindness, only what you can’t see is that your dorm in 2021 is better than the South before the Civil War.” He pointed out examples such as comedian Kevin Hart, who said, “You’re witnessing White power and White privilege at an all-time high.” Maher asks, “Higher than a century ago — the year of the Tulsa race massacre? Higher than the years when the KKK rode unchecked and Jim Crow went unchallenged? Higher than slavery? And I mean actual slavery, not ‘Prince doesn’t like his record contract’ slavery.” Bill Maher drove home his point graphically, “if you think America is more racist now than ever, more sexist than before women could vote and more homophobic than when blow jobs were a felony, you have progressophobia and you should adjust your mask because its covering your eyes.” Amen. He also had advice for ignorant young people, “Because here’s the thing, kids: There actually was a world before you got here. We date human events A.D. and B.C., but we need a new marker for Millennials and Gen-Z, ‘B.Y.’ – ‘Before You.’” Amen again. People of good will are beginning to fight back. We have seen parents, disgusted by the attempts of Woke educators to brainwash their children, fighting back against schools and school boards. That’s a start. Unless we stop selling fear, and start seeing truth, we’re through as a nation.
When Democrats won in November, by means fair or foul, and then somehow won the two Georgia Senate seats, they decided that they finally had a mandate to do whatever they wanted. After all, they have a corrupt demented imbecile President who barely won, and who barely knows he’s alive. They have a five seat majority in the House, and the Senate is split 50-50, permitting Cackling Kamala to break ties. Surely, this overwhelming Blue Wave would permit Democrats to legislate to their Socialist heart’s content. But no so fast. The key piece of legislation on the Democrat wish list is H.R.1, euphemistically known as “The For the People Act.” I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s worth saying again, Democrats, like all totalitarian despots, camouflage their true intentions by giving benign, or pleasant sounding names to proposals that are actually calculated to steal you blind while you’re not looking, e.g., The Affordable Care Act. Any bill with the word “People” in it deserves special scrutiny. When despots resort to pandering to “the people” they’re really up to no good. In Soviet Russia, the People’s Commisariat for State Security sounded beneficial, but it was the NKGB, whose job it was to torture and kill people that Stalin and Lavrenty Beria didn’t like. The Chinese Communists have the People’s Liberation Army, which in true Orwellian fashion, exists to oppress the people. Ask the “people” in Tianamen Square in 1989 how liberated they were. In Nazi Germany, People’s Courts existed for the purpose of condemning to death real and imangined enemies of Adolph Hitler, who were thereupon hung with paino wire. So much for those people. And now comes the Democrats’ crowning jewel, H.R. 1, “The For the People Act.” A better name for it would be The Screw the People Act, because the only role despots envision for “the people,” is to shut up and do what they’re told. According to the Heritage Foundation, H.R. 1 would federalize the election process, and impose unnecessary, unwise, and unconstitutional mandates on the States. H.R. 1 would do a number of things, all of them bad for America. Here are the lowlights: usurp the authority of States to regulate voter registration and the voting process by forcing States to implement early voting, automatic voter registration, same-day registration, and online voter registration; make fraud easier by denying election officials the time to verify voter eligibility; mandate 15 days of early voting; require states to automatically register all “individuals,” not just “citizens;” make it a crime for a state official to reject a voter registration application because the official believes the individual is ineligible to vote (in other words, it’s a crime to do your job); mandate no-fault absentee ballots, the tool of choice for vote thieves; mandate ballot harvesting; prohibit state officials from purging voter lists of ineligible voters (more than 30 million people move each year; they’ll be registered in more than one place); ban State voter ID laws (how would we identify a voter, we’ll ask his name, he’ll tell us – good enough); expand regulation and government censorship of campaigns and political activity and speech (We don’t need no stinking First Amendment); allow felons to vote; prohibit State legislatures from drawing Congressional Districts; authorize the IRS to engage in partisan activity by permitting it to consider the political positions of nonprofit organizations; require court challenges to be brought in the D.C. Circuit, the challengers limited to only one lawyer; establish a “Commission to Protect Democratic Institutions” (Remember, if it sounds good, it’s bad) that would threaten the independence of the judiciary by compelling judges to testify and justify their legal decisions, and subjecting them to political pressure and harassment. This monstrosity violates Article I, section 4, Article II, section 1, the First and Fourteenth Amendments, and the spearation of powers doctrine, so of course, Democrats think it’s a great idea. The problem is, not all Democrats are on board. In the House, Crazy Nancy will, no doubt, crack the whip and get her caucus to rubber stamp it. But in the Senate, two of the 50 Democrats say they won’t support the bill. It’s sad that only two Democrats are honest enough, or more likely, are afraid enough of their constituents, to do the right thing, but Arizona’s Krysten Sinema and West Virginia’s Joe Manchin are it. Manchin also is opposed to ending the Senate filibuster, you know, that procedure that Democrats now call “a remnant of Jim Crow, ” after they used it 314 times against President Trump. Manchin explained, “It’s the wrong piece of legislation to bring our country together and unite our country, and I’m not supporting that because I think it would divide us more. I don’t want to be in a country that’s divided any further. Do we really want to live in an America where one Party can dictate and demand everything and anything it wants, whenever it wants? I have always said, If I can’t go home and explain it, I can’t vote for it.” Now, who could argue with that? Uh, Lefist Democrats, that’s who. The Regressive Left is shocked, shocked, that Joe Manchin could have the audacity to oppose the Screw the People Act. I mean, what purpose do Regressives serve other than to screw the people? Outspoken Leftists have struck out at Manchin. Jemele Hill, who was too crazy even for ESPN, excoriated Joe Manchin,
“Record number of black voters show up to save this democracy, only for white supremacy to be upheld by a cowardly, power-hungry white dude.” At least now we get to the root of the problem, the problem with Manchin is, he’s too white. Ever been to West Virginia, Jemele? It doesn’t matter. The Regressive Anthem seems to be “Race Uber Alles.” N.Y. Congressman Jamaal Bowman, (WHO?), who was elected last year, and is the only male member of “the Squad,” said Manchin was doing “everything in his power to stop democracy.” Maybe Jamaal has a different definition of “democracy.” Judd Legum, co-founder of the ThinkProgress website, which is connected to Hillary bagman John Podesta, and is funded by George Soros and the Bill Gates Foundation, said Manchin’s reasons for opposing the Screw the People Act are “very strange.” Consider that. If you won’t vote for a divisive bill that harms America, which your constituents are dead set against, that’s “strange.” A United States Senator who thinks for himself and doesn’t just do what he’s ordered to do is “strange.” If you’ve been paying attention, you’ve no doubt noticed that Regressive Democrats also are strange. It’s a good thing Joe Manchin is a Stranger in a Strange Land.
FRANK ON FRIDAY – Defund the Government
The crazies among us, all of whom happen to belong to the misnamed “Democratic Party,” have been on a defunding kick. While riots ran riot all over America, these kooks, led by the members of The Squad, AOC and her Commie comrades, put forth proposals to defund the police. This nonsense was prompted by the death of career criminal and crime victim George Floyd in Minnesota. Floyd, who had a history including an armed home invasion, during which he held a pregnant woman at gunpoint, told police “I ate too many drugs.” He famously said, “I can’t breathe,” which was not surprising, as Floyd, who suffered from heart disease, had ingested marijuana, crystal meth and a fatal dose of fentanyl. Rather than simply taking Floyd to a hospital, we saw what the cop did, so Floyd’s death was a homicide. George Floyd became an unlikely martyr, with murals and statues popping up everywhere people have an axe to grind. The Squad (or is it Squat?) proposed a remedy – defund the police. 135 Democrats have sponsored a bill. Because George Floyd said, “I can’t breathe,” it’s called, The BREATHE Act. That’s catchy, but I understand that lung function improves when you don’t overdose on fentanyl, a drug used during surgery that stops your breathing. Anyhow, The BREATHE Act will slash federal funds to local police and federal agencies, and spend the money on social welfare, health care, education, environmental programs, and reparations for African-Americans. It cancels grant programs that fund local police and provide equipment. It also defunds ICE and the DEA, and prohibits the use of ankle monitors and Gang databases. This makes sense. No need to identify the people most likely to shoot you dead, and since we let them all out of jail, no reason to keep track of who might be climbing in your window right now. Personally, I’m with Senator Kennedy of Louisiana, “Next time someone’s breaking into your house, don’t call a cop, call a crackhead.” One Squad member, AOC acolyte Jamaal Bowman, even proposed taking guns away from the police, as he thinks they are too dangerous to be permitted to go about armed. Of course, he only wants to take guns from the police that protect you. He has armed officers guarding his house. That’s how it works in a totalitarian dictatorship. They take guns away from law-abiding people, while the leaders stay safe behind barbed wire. But not to worry. According to public safety experts such as Chicago Mayor Lightfoot, although 108 people, including 12 children, were shot in her city over the July 4th holiday, crime actually is down. I guess they’re running out of people to shoot. And it really doesn’t matter. Since the news no longer is what happened, but what they say happened, as long as they say crime is down, it’s down. When you think of it, defunding the police makes sense. If we’re not going to arrest or prosecute criminals, then why pay all those cops all that money? Not sick yet? Squad member Rashida Tlaib also wants to defund the Department of Homeland Security. Does that mean we’ll no longer have to take our shoes off at the airport? This actually is a good idea. If DHS let her family into the country, what good are they? So what if the first duty of government is to protect its citizens? So what if the fallout means that tourists and businesses won’t return to the cities, and their tax bases disappear? We’ve always got Uncle Sucker in Washington to spread around the graft, uh, I mean stimulus. Am I the only one who’s wondering how New Jersey, a State in a perpetual state of near bankruptcy, this year wound up with a more than $10 billion surplus? In boom years, New Jersey had budget deficits. After a year during which little work was done, they have a surplus? The money came from the federal government, which itself ran a $3.1 trillion deficit last year. Since January, Corrupt Demented Imbecile Joe Biden has spent another $2 trillion we don’t have, on stimulus we don’t need, and he’s currently holding out for an additional $6 trillion spending bill. No one, especially no one in the Democrat Party, seems to be concerned about a national debt which now tops $28 trillion. Let’s put it in perspective. The debt exceeded $1 trillion for the first time in 1982. I’m old enough to remember Democrats, some of them still in office, who were shocked, shocked at the size of such a debt. Spoiler alert. Ronald Reagan was President, there was a $250 billion budget deficit, and Democrats found that number to be unconscionable and ruinous. Then, as now, they blamed tax cuts. Here’s the truth. By dropping the top tax rate from 70% to 28%, federal tax revenue doubled during the Reagan years. They had a deficit because, although they had an additional $500 billion to spend, they spent an additional $750 billion. Bill Clinton fixed it. He raised taxes on the hated rich. The result? The national debt went up to $5.8 trillion, 55% of GDP. When Il Duce Obama arrived, the debt was $10 trillion, and in the financial crisis of 2008 rose to 68% of GDP. It took 28 years for the debt to go from $1 to $10 trillion. Obama managed to nearly double the debt in 8 years. He increased the debt to more than 100% of GDP, for the first time since World War II. Democrats who were appalled at a $250 billion Republican deficit thought nothing of annual Obama deficits over $1 trillion. Last year’s Wuhan deficit was over $3 trillion. With the Wuhan gone, Biden is sure to beat that this year. What’s troubling is that not many Republicans are sounding the alarm on this reckless spending. The 2020 deficit was 129% of GDP. That’s unsustainable, and sadly, that’s their plan. It’s the John Blutarski, Animal House, economic system, “Have some money. It don’t cost nothing!” The plan is to keep sending people supposedly free money; but money, much like lunch, isn’t free. They plan to create a financial crisis, and then, because of the crisis, which will be the fault of the rich, raise taxes through the roof and take the rest of your liberty. Here’s my solution. While we’re in a defunding mood, let’s defund the government. Let’s stop spending money we haven’t got .
